2011 Season Summary

The 2011 Formula Windsurfing season has come to a close for me. I am now once again back in Guernsey working on how to cover the expenses incurred through the campaign.

Alongside this, I look forward to hitting the local beaches here for some fun times through the winter storms whilst everyone else runs for cover and hides indoors!!

I have been asked many questions in terms of how the season went so have put together some broad statistics.

Over the course of 2011, I pretty much traveled the entire globe heading down to 38 degrees south and up to 64 degrees north. The distance between my most northern and southern destinations is 17000km. For reference, half the circumference of the globe is 20000km.

I sustained my first broken bone through windsurfing after an on the water crash in Australia with another sailor where our closing speed was around 80km/h.

In Europe, I drove through 16 distinct countries with my route taking me over the borders to travel through 30 separate countries. I drove a total of 17761km and spent 60 hours whilst aboard 9 ferry journeys. I used 1521 litres of diesel at an average cost of €1.362 making the total fuel spend €2072. Now enjoying the fresh air and exercise from being back on two wheels cycling to most places back on The Rock.

I took 5280 photos. In addition, with the timed shutter release on the GoPro camera taken out on the water, there were approximately an additional 14000 photos. That makes approaching 20000 photos I looked over and edited this year.

There were 2660 visits from 55 countries to my website, http://jamesbriggs.me

There is way too much math going on in this post! 😛

I can tell you’ve been to America recently… 😉 There was a demand for statistics so had to get involved with some maths. Next post will be a return to normal service with less writing, more pictures.
